I must admit, watching Elisa with
all those suits made me green with envy, but I knew I had to keep my head
together in case she needed me. I was still mad at Bernie. But more mad at me.
Unfortunately, the little weasel escaped the team and now was on his way right
to the epicenter of the IMF. Elisa was on the right track, but something had to
be done quickly.
Luckily I knew that when I thought of someone, I could be right there looking
at them. This time I thought of that dame who got me into this in the first
place. Bam! [ Read More ... ]

Managing Access for the Watchers
In this issue, we've reach the conclusion of the security
gumshoe series. Have you been putting off reading the story until it was
complete or are you new to the story? Start the story at the beginning.
In the final chapter, does Elisa capture the culprit? Does she survive or end
up joining Chip in the afterlife?
Find out here.
There is one tricky aspect about deciding
how much access to give the help desk, the definition of their roles. Help desk
personnel have different responsibilities in different organizations. In spite
of this challenge,
readers provide well-rounded solutions that should help all
organizations.
In reading your feedback, another problem
area repeatedly pops up: educating users. We hope a few of you have found
success and you're willing to
share your stories. Of course, we realize the
importance of security and company proprietary information—you don't have to
share specifics, and we respect your anonymity.
As mentioned before, user education was a
frequent topic in your feedback. Thanks to your feedback, we used the topic in
this newsletter so we can try to help you. Got other challenges you'd like to
see addressed? Here’s the place to voice them.

Last Issue's Security Dilemma:
Watching the Help Desk Watchers
The biggest issue we have at work is how much access to
give to the help desk personnel. We are running Windows 2000 Servers in our
domain and primarily running Windows 2000 Pro for our users. We are using
Active Directory, Organizational Units and Group Policies to restrict much of
the access to general users as well as help desk personnel. How much access
should you give to help desk personnel do their jobs while ensuring we have a
tight security system in place?

This Issue's Security Dilemma:
Educating Rita and
Roger about IT policies and rules
In talking with others in our
industry, I've learned many of us have the same problem when it comes to IT
security: user education — managers included. We've attempted offering
mandatory short courses, both self-paced and classroom, but we continue to have
challenges when our users do not properly follow security policies and rules. We'd like to read about others' success
stories in educating users.
How
do you educate users to follow proper protocol?
