Creating a Secure Base in a Virtual World

The adoption rate of Virtual Machines has exploded at most organizations, driven by the improved cost effectiveness of increased server utilization. However, this boom in logical servers has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of devices connected to the network, and each needs to be individually configured, patched and secured. This paper describes the importance of virtualization security and how solutions from Shavlik Technologies provide the same secure operating base and patch management for virtual machines as they do for their physical counterparts — for online and offline VMs.

Shavlik NetChk Protect Tips:

If you have a centralized document listing machines that you will be supporting, such as a spreadsheet, you can cut and paste the machines into *.txt files and use “link to file” or “import from file options” in the NetChk Protect machine group to create your machine groups. “Link to file” gives you a dynamic way to keep your machine group up to date by simply modifying the *.txt file. Each time the machine group is used, it will pull in the current *.txt file list and use it.
